SANYO Shares Thanksgiving Blessings

December 2, 1998    Richmond, Indiana

Thanksgiving leftovers can sometimes be a problem. But this year, they were a blessing for underprivileged people in eastern Indiana, thanks to SANYO-Verbatim CD Company.

Each Thanksgiving, SANYO-Verbatim serves a free turkey dinner to employees at the company’s headquarters. Because all part-time and temporary workers as well as full-time employees are invited, it can sometimes be difficult to plan the exact amount of food needed. This year, there was enough food for 225 people, but only about 170 actually attended.

When he saw that there would be enough leftovers to feed about 50 people, Steve Bunker, the company’s General Affairs Supervisor, immediately called the New Covenant Life Center, a social service agency in Richmond. Bunker offered the extra turkey, pumpkin pie, and all the trimmings to the center, which feeds the homeless and others. Jenny Grubb, its director, accepted, praising SANYO-Verbatim’s "caring and compassion for those less fortunate."

"We’re glad to help our neighbors when we can," Bunker said. "I’m happy our Thanksgiving abundance could be put to such good use."
