SANYO Laser Products Announces Formation of Foreign Auto Parts Incubator & Assists Local Business Expansion

Recent SANYO Incubator Promotional Visit to Japan Yields High Level Contact with Officials.  From left, Hideo Nakai, president and CEO of SANYO Laser Products; Hiromi Hemuki, representative of the State of Indiana’s trade office in Japan; former United States Vice President Dan Quayle, a native of Indiana; Jim Hizer, president of Economic Development Corporation of Wayne County and Hirotsugu Iikubo a longtime Indiana and Japan trade authority.

Richmond, Indiana – SANYO Laser Products has announced the formation of a Foreign Auto Parts Incubator Program for new businesses seeking to do business in the United States.  The program already has one new participant, Yamaguchi Manufacturing USA, which has opened its logistics and distribution operations at the SANYO Incubator location.  The Incubator provides logistics and manufacturing support to small to mid-sized Japanese companies with less risk than is typically associated when just entering the US marketplace.  Yamaguchi, which is based in Numazu, Japan, benefits not only by SANYO’s 18-year track-record in the Midwest in Indiana, but also by the Incubator’s close proximity to Detroit and the many automotive facilities located in the region to which Yamaguchi distributes its products.

Hideo Nakai, SANYO Laser Product’s CEO and president, comments, “The SANYO Incubator can strongly support those Japanese firms wishing to benefit by SANYO’s long experience, large facility and exceptional location.”  He continues, “We create unique solutions customized for these new firms, so they don’t have to enter this market alone.”

Several additional Japanese firms are considering a partnership with SANYO’s Incubator.  Much of this success is the result of joint efforts by SANYO, the Wayne County, Indiana Economic Development Corporation and other Indiana authorities.  They began recruiting Japanese businesses in February of 2003 and are beginning to see the fruits of their labors.  Over and above Yamaguchi, several other Japanese automotive companies are considering moving a portion of their operations to the SANYO Incubator.

Promoting the Incubator is an ongoing effort that will benefit by their presence in Tokyo for the International Auto Aftermarket Expo at the beginning of 2004.  When describing the benefits of the Incubator, especially when overseas, Nakai has noted that firms are very concerned about the cost of establishing a new location.  The Incubator takes much of the guesswork out of such a decision and saves these firms time and money.

Nakai concludes, “While providing this valuable service, we’re expanding the business base in our home of over 18-years, Richmond and Wayne County, Indiana.  Now that’s what I call a win-win.”

With more than 18-years of disc manufacturing excellence, SANYO Laser Products is an industry pioneer in the production of innovative solutions for global users of CDs, DVDs and other optical disc products.  This tradition continues as SANYO introduces the first CD based from corn.  A largely bio-degradable disc, this “Mild Disc” leaves a much smaller environmental foot print than its predecessors.  The “Mild Disc” can only be obtained from SANYO.  Leading innovation, quality and customer service define what is SANYO Laser Products.
